blackjack history

Blackjack still is the most popular casino game. The reasons are simple: Blackjack game is very easy to learn, and by using the winning blackjack strategy a player can reduce the casino’s edge and get an advantage.
The origin of the game Blackjack is still in dispute to this day, but can be traced back to several European card games. It is rumored that the french games Chem de Fer, French Ferme and Vingt-Un (21) may be the source of this popular casino game. The French game Vingt-Un (“21″) is certainly the most promising sounding candidate for the original Blackjack. The goal of this game was to get or reach a “Natural” — cards totalling 21 the cards were actually dealt in rounds followed by betting each round.
The game started to appear in the United States since the early 19th century. When the game was first introduced in America, it wasn’t very popular. There it was known as “21″ until the late 1940’s when American casinos, to attract more players to the card game tables, tried special bonus payouts for this card game.

This bonus offers a 10-to-1 payout if the player collect a hand with the Ace of Spades and a Black Jack (either the Jack of Clubs or the Jack of Spades). This hand was called a “blackjack” for obvious reasons and the name stuck to this game, though the bonus payout was soon removed.
